Nevada Senate Republicans Call For More School Choice During Valentine’s Day Campaign

(Carson City, Nevada, February 13, 2023) – The Nevada Senate Republicans called for more School Choice today outside the legislature where both Leader Heidi Seevers Gansert and Assistant Leader Dr. Carrie Buck gave speeches, energizing parents, constituents, and students from various schools that were in attendance. After their speeches, more than 500 handmade Valentine’s Day cards were delivered to lawmakers from local students asking them to “Be A Sweetheart, Support School Choice!”

“I am optimistic about the future of School Choice in Nevada and the bills my caucus will move forward this legislative session. It’s time to reform our current education system, think outside the box and work together to find solutions for all of our students,” stated Leader Seevers Gansert. “My bill expanding and stabilizing Opportunity Scholarships will change the lives for many underserved, vulnerable children, ensuring their educational needs are met and they are set up for success.”

“Another way of ensuring equity in our education funding system is to provide public charter schools with facility funding like traditional public schools. My bill attempts to level the playing field for our public charter schools. Public charter schools are already performing at such a high level, imagine how much more our students will benefit when administrators can focus more on their students and teachers and less on fundraising for their buildings,” Assistant Leader Buck said.

The Nevada Senate Republicans look forward to moving these important priorities through the legislature and getting them signed into law by Governor Lombardo.
