Senate Republican Leadership Strongly Condemns Discriminatory Message Given to Senator Dallas Harris

(Carson City, NV, March 7, 2023) – Republican Leader Heidi Seevers Gansert and Assistant Leader Carrie Buck strongly condemn the language and rhetoric on the Valentine’s Day card that Senator Dallas Harris was given after the School Choice Rally in February. Though not the organizers of the event, our leadership delivered speeches in support of providing more educational options for Nevada families.

The point of the event was for parents, students, and advocates to encourage legislators to “Be a Sweetheart, Support School Choice” and to provide awareness for the need for more educational options that give vulnerable students an opportunity to receive an education that best suits their needs. Republican Leader Heidi Seevers Gansert upon hearing the news this morning about what was delivered to Senator Dallas Harris issued the following statement:

“I strongly condemn the message Senator Dallas Harris received as it was absolutely inappropriate and in stark contrast to the purpose of the event. The “Be a Sweetheart Campaign for School Choice” was meant to be a positive demonstration to request support for additional education options for our students, not to stoke fear and hate against any group of people, especially a legislator. I am offended by the note and I don’t believe this matter reflects the values of all students and families who want more school choice in Nevada.”
