NEVADA SENATE REPUBLICANS APPLAUD GOVERNOR LOMBARDO’S PLANS FOR NEVADA DETAILED IN HIS STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
(Carson City, NV, January 23, 2023) – The Nevada Senate Republican Caucus applaud Governor Lombardo’s State of the State address today and commend his detailed vision to move Nevada forward. Governor Lombardo’s plan opens the State for business, makes historic investments in education and infrastructure, and creates substantial reserves for the next economic downturn while providing a structurally balanced budget.
Governor Lombardo delivered for Nevada families by announcing substantial K-12 education funding while providing more educational options and accountability. Governor Lombardo’s proposed budget more than doubles the amount of funds available to support Nevada’s most vulnerable students with Opportunity Scholarships, allowing them to attend the school that best fits their needs. Leader Seevers Gansert has been one of the greatest proponents for Opportunity Scholarships throughout her time in office and has a bill to make this happen. Governor Lombardo also supports the re-introduction of the retention requirement for Read by Grade 3 Act, highlighting the need for Nevada to provide early interventions to increase literacy and reading proficiency rates at the elementary level. Assistant Leader Buck will carry the legislation to do just that this session.
In a move to keep more money in Nevadans’ pockets, Governor Lombardo will suspend the gas tax, saving 17 cents per gallon at the pump. Additionally, he will seek to reduce the tax burden on Nevada businesses, helping make them become more competitive and assist in attracting and retaining more skilled professionals to Nevada.
“It is with great pride and gratitude that we support Governor Lombardo in his plans to strengthen the education system, reinvest in economic growth, and foster safe communities,” stated Leader Seevers Gansert. “Faced with a divided government, it is crucial that we act in a bipartisan fashion to improve the quality of life for Nevada families.”
Nevada Senate Republicans look forward to supporting Governor Lombardo’s legislative efforts alongside the Caucus’ priorities when the 82nd (2023) Session of the Nevada Legislature begins on February 6, 2023.
